Applications are now being accepted for the Tobe Maki Foundation Scholarship 2025–2027, a prestigious, non-repayable award supporting both Japanese and international students enrolled in universities across Japan. This two-year scholarship is ideal for highly motivated and academically strong individuals pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in diverse fields such as chemistry, food science, design, physical education, and business.
The Tobe Maki Foundation, based in Osaka, was established to support promising students facing financial challenges. It aims to invest in future leaders by providing financial aid to students who demonstrate:
Exceptional academic performance
Strong personal character and discipline
Financial need for tuition and living expenses
The scholarship is available to students enrolled in:
Bachelor’s degree (3rd year and above)
Master’s degree
Doctoral degree programs
All applicants must be studying at recognized Japanese universities during the scholarship period.
The scholarship is open to students in the following disciplines:
Chemical sciences
Food sciences
Art and design
Physical education / sports science
Business administration (marketing, public policy, etc.)
Number of Awards: 60 total
Approx. 55 for Japanese students
Approx. 5 for international students
Monthly Stipend:
Graduate students: ¥70,000
Undergraduate students: ¥60,000
Duration:
April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2027 (2 years)
Possible extension up to 4 years (or more for exceptional PhD students)
Note: If receiving another scholarship above ¥2,000,000 annually, the grant amount may be reduced.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Be enrolled in a university/graduate school in Japan between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2027
Be under 30 years old as of April 1, 2025 (exceptions apply for valid reasons)
Be in the 3rd year or above of undergrad or in a graduate program
Have excellent academic records and strong character
Demonstrate financial need
Hold a valid “Student” visa (international applicants)
Be self-funded international students (not receiving government scholarships)
Online Deadline: May 8, 2025 (by 23:59 JST)
Postal Deadline: Documents must arrive by May 12, 2025
Results: Expected by early July 2025
Scholarship Start: April 2025
All documents must be submitted online and by post. Required materials include:
Application form (Word & Excel, filled in Japanese)
Letter of recommendation (from university president or department head)
Proof of enrollment (valid from April 2025)
Academic transcripts (all years, with GPA)
Residence certificate (excluding My Number)
Recent photo (passport-style, taken within 3 months)
Important: Applications not following the specified format or missing documents will not be considered.

Upload PDFs of the required documents
Post originals with your online receipt number
If selected, scholars must submit:
Semester-wise academic transcripts
Annual activity reports
Bi-monthly scholarship status reports
Note: Failure to comply with obligations may lead to termination of the scholarship.
An optional social gathering will be held on August 24, 2025 for all recipients.
