Established by the American Friends of SOAS (AFSOAS) in honour of alumnus John Loiello, this scholarship offers a unique chance to pursue a full-time, one-year taught Master's degree programme at the prestigious SOAS University of London.
What the Scholarship Covers
The John Loiello Scholarship is designed to alleviate the financial burden of studying abroad, providing recipients with comprehensive support:
- Tuition Fees: Full coverage for the entire duration of the Master's programme, allowing students to focus solely on their academic journey.
- Accommodation: Provided by International Student House (ISH), recipients will receive a standard single room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Additionally, free brunch on weekends ensures that students have a comfortable and enriching living experience.
Eligible Programmes
This scholarship is open to any full-time, one-year taught Master's programme at SOAS University of London. Please note that part-time and two-year courses are not eligible for consideration.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the John Loiello Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold an unconditional or conditional offer for a full-time, one-year taught Master's programme at SOAS by the scholarship panel stage.
- Have not previously earned a Master's degree.
- Be a U.S. resident with a high school and undergraduate degree from institutions in the United States.
- Maintain an unweighted GPA of at least 3.50 from their undergraduate degree.
- Demonstrate a genuine financial need.
- Clearly articulate their intentions to contribute to the SOAS community both as a student and in their future professional life.
Assessment Process
Applications will undergo a rigorous review by a Selection Panel consisting of three academic members. The key aspects of the application will be assessed as follows:
- Undergraduate GPA: Academic excellence remains a central criterion.
- Demonstrated financial need: The scholarship is intended to support those who require financial assistance.
- Statement of intent: The panel will assess the applicant's vision for contributing to the SOAS community during and after their studies.
Applicants are encouraged to provide information they are comfortable with, keeping in mind the confidentiality of their application.
Application Instructions
To apply for the John Loiello Scholarship, follow these steps:
