The Information Controls Fellowship Program (ICFP) is now open for applications. This prestigious fellowship, supported by the Open Technology Fund (OTF), invites researchers and students from around the world to join efforts in addressing the challenges of internet censorship and surveillance. Fellows will engage in impactful projects that aim to ensure global access to information in a safe and unrestricted online environment. Participants will collaborate on research, develop tools, and contribute to efforts that promote internet freedom.
Fellows will work full-time with a host organization of their choice and may opt for remote work arrangements. This flexible structure makes it an ideal opportunity for those looking to gain valuable research experience while receiving a paid fellowship. The ICFP 2025 is open to researchers, postdoctoral and doctoral students, and professionals from diverse disciplines.
The ICFP offers fellowships with durations ranging from three to twelve months, providing generous financial support. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $7,000, a travel stipend based on fellowship duration (ranging from $1,250 to $5,000), and an equipment stipend (ranging from $1,250 to $5,000). Fellows can work with both academic and non-academic host organizations, including those outside the United States. In addition to working full-time, participants are encouraged to contribute to important areas of research such as monitoring and analyzing internet censorship, exploring information controls on platforms like social media, search engines, and messaging apps, and ensuring the security and privacy of online activities.
