Offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), this scholarship supports international students pursuing postgraduate studies, research, or specialized training at Italian higher education institutions. Whether you're aiming for a Master’s, PhD, or research project, Italy offers you more than just academic learning—it offers an experience of a lifetime.
With 61 public universities, 30 private universities, 11 public research organizations, and over 300 English-taught courses, Italy combines world-class education with centuries of intellectual tradition. It’s also home to unique AFAM institutions (Higher Artistic Education Centres), offering innovative programs in music, arts, and design.

This scholarship includes comprehensive support to make your academic journey in Italy smooth and affordable:
Scholars will receive €900 per month, disbursed quarterly to their Italian bank account.
Depending on the university’s policies, recipients may be exempted from tuition and enrolment fees. Please note, this does not apply to courses in Italian language and culture.
All selected candidates will be covered by MAECI-sponsored medical and accident insurance for the full scholarship duration. (Pre-existing health conditions are not covered.)
To apply for the Italian Government Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
Must be from an eligible foreign country
Must not be residing in Italy at the time of application
Master’s / AFAM / Italian language courses: Not older than 28 years
PhD programs: Not older than 30 years
Research projects: Not older than 40 years
For English-taught courses: Proof of English proficiency (minimum B2 level CEFR)
For Italian language courses: Certificate of Italian language proficiency (minimum A2 level)
For Research: Must provide an English language certificate and a research proposal accepted by an Italian university or research body
Admission to a Master’s degree requires a completed Bachelor’s degree
Admission to a PhD program requires meeting the specific university's academic entry requirements and providing a letter of acceptance
For AFAM institutes, applicants must meet entry requirements set by the institution
For research grants, projects must be carried out at public research centres (e.g., CNR, ISS, INFN, INAF, ISPRA) under academic supervision
